The Veteran I work with is so grateful for the help of Veterans Matter!  He worked hard to get his mental health and substance use stabilized so he could conduct a housing search. He was very excited to find an apartment close to a bus line and within walking distance to a grocery store. He was also offered an opportunity for therapeutic work at the VA to build his job readiness skills so he could return to the work force.

Despite all these successes, he had one last barrier to overcome — a $500 deposit for the apartment that he found. He felt very hopeless that he would be able to raise the funds and saw his small successes start to slip out of his hands. As his HUDVASH social worker, I was also getting concerned that I would not be able to find an agency with funding for his apartment deposit.

Then, a co-worker told me about Veterans Matter. Within just 48 hours, we were able to apply through their simple application process, get approval, and the landlord had his deposit in hand, allowing the Veteran to finally get moved into the apartment — the first step on his road to future success.

We couldn’t be more grateful for the super-fast and friendly help he received from Veterans Matter. This organization is helping to end Veteran homelessness and making dreams come true for our nation’s heroes. Thank you, Veterans Matter!
